Poetry Prompt: Overheard

This post is part of a series of weekly found poetry prompts. If you have an idea for a found poetry source, email Senior Poetry Editor Beth Ayer. Photo by Naomi (deviantart, Creative Commons).

What’s the difference between creating poetry from written sources as you move about your day (a billboard, say) and spoken sources? Your prompt: one day this week, record every word (or as many as possible, we’re reasonable folks) you hear spoken aloud. When you’ve gathered enough surveillance, erase your recorded text to create a poem. Erase the day and leave behind a poem. Let us know how this goes!
