Call for Readers

Dear friends and found poetry fans,

The Found Poetry Review is growing and we are seeking new individuals to join our masthead as readers.

This group will serve as the first line of review for poems submitted to the journal. Readers will be assigned small groups of submissions on a twice-monthly basis via our online submissions management tool Submittable, and will be asked to read, vote and comment on the submissions within the following two weeks. Submissions that reach a threshold of positive votes from the readers will then be reviewed by our editor-in-chief and senior editor for final review and selection.

We expect the time commitment to be relatively painless – about one hour per week. Because the whole process is virtual, you’re free to fit this in at the times that work best for you. That said, because this is a volunteer-based effort, you’re free to leave the position if your schedule grows to no longer accommodate it.

A couple of additional things: we’re getting ready to update the website design here in the next month or so. Once that happens, we’ll create a masthead page and will list your names, photos and bios. Also, it probably goes without saying, but if you are selected to join our team of readers, you can’t submit your own poetry for consideration.

We don’t need a full resume or anything super formal. Shoot us a message at with a little bit about why you’re interested in joining us, who your favorite poets are, and (for bonus points) an example or two of found poetry–not from our site–that you like and why. If you have experiencing either being published or publishing other people (e.g. have worked on other literary journals in the past) feel free to share those credits and details with us, though we will still absolutely consider you if you have neither.

Additional (optional) opportunities

With the impending site update, we hope to feature more regular content outside of the journal itself in the shape of blog posts, interviews, book reviews, etc. If you think you might have an interest in occasionally contributing, feel free to note that in your message. Also, we need to be better Tweeters and Facebook-ers (generally we only post when we need something — shame on us!)  so if you think you might want to help us get our HootSuite on, then let us know that too.

We’ll aim to let you know within a week or two of applying if we’ve selected you to join our reader pool. We’ll keep this opportunity open until we’re satisfied with the group. In the meantime, if you have any questions, post them as a comment or send them to the email address above and we’ll try to get back to you as soon as we can.

Thanks and we look forward to working with you!
